Okay, so it is still hot in Georgia, but at last it is not broiling. I can come out from my air conditioned cave and breathe without feeling like I am swimming through the air. The moose (aka Bella the dog) and I have resumed our morning walks and OMG I am so out of shape. I have definitely used the heat as an excuse to become a sloth. So I have got to make myself get up, get dressed, put leash on moose and go out the door before I have time to think about what I am doing. Thinking is dangerous. I will come up with dozens of reasons I should put walk off until later. And I don't know why this is! I enjoy the walk once I actually begin. It's just that gettin' started thing. I have all the proper accessories (walking shoes, ipod, dog-on-leash); this shouldn't be a chore. So. Motivation is needed. Suggestions are welcome.

I can't really motivate you but I have observations.

- Personally, I'm absolutely incapacitated by humidity. Generally, the earllier it is in the morning, the less pervasive and overwhelming is the humidity, so if you want to/need to walk, and if it's as humid there as I assume it is, I know I'd benefit from the old saying 'the earlier the better'....

- It's a vicious cycle: the more out of shape you are, the more humidity will affect you... the more humidity affects you, the more out of shape you'll become... so the trick is to become aware of this trap and work on ways not to let it get the upper hand.

Finally, I need to be honest about this. I miss my dog like crazy, but I hated walking the dog. I did NOT enjoy dog walking. I much preferred the times I could just open a door and let the dog out to do its business.

Of course, that might also have at least a little to do with what a bad walking companion my dog used to be, combined with how out of shape I was... ah well....

Anyhow: walk early, walk often, enjoy dog and walks, go forth and be merry.

This sounds like me ant the end of summer not yet fall stage of garden work. Still hot, sunny, too buggy too early or too late in the day... Yeah. Motivation wanders off. Your getting your butt out there without allowing yourself time to talk your way out of it is IDEAL. It is what will work for me (again - years of experience here), although I have to plan ahead and put on sunscreen too.
