If my father hadn't died last December, he and mother would have been married for 66 years today. She's been feeling very sentimental, of course, and telling me all about how they eloped, but the whole family knew about it a week later because somebody saw them and told. I took her to the beauty shop for a haircut this afternoon, and when the beautician heard about what day it was, she went outside to a huge blooming bush and cut off several flowers and gave them to mother. She said they were "Confederate Roses." I've never seen these particular flowers before, but they are beautiful. Sometimes people surprise me with how nice they can be.
